Long gone are the days when basking under the sun without sunscreen was part of my summer ritual. I remember taking trips to Miami with my best friend and spending hours on the beach while applying, and re-applying, tanning oil (yes, OIL!), in a desperate attempt to add some color to our “pale” skins. We often underestimated the power of the Miami sun and our skin suffered as a result of our overindulgence in the sun’s rays. Oh, the days of being young and careless! Fast forward to 2016, SPF, moisturizer, and exfoliation are a must in my daily routine.
My skin varies from normal to dry, depending on season and time of the month. I’ve never struggled with acne but do experience sporadic breakouts. Since I have an oily t-zone, my breakouts are usually on my forehead and occasionally under the jawline. Nothing a little cover-up can’t conceal! However, I try my best to keep acne at bay by using proper skin care and a clean diet.
I’ve tried numerous face cleansers and creams, from drugstores to high-end, and while I’ve discovered many favorites throughout the journey, I’ve finally found a skincare regimen that truly agrees with my skin.
I’ve had the Clarisonic Mia for about five years but never experienced the full benefits of this wonderful tool until now. I tend to clean my face while in the shower since it’s convenient and less messy. I first wet my face and apply the Boscia Cleanser directly onto my skin, then using circular motions, apply the brush beginning on the forehead, then nose, and rest of face. This is by far one of my favorite cleansers, it strips make-up off completely, even mascara and liner residue, and leaves skin feeling super clean. Once the brush shuts off, I apply the Dermalogica Microfoliant and massage onto skin for 1 minute, this time without the Clarisonic, and rinse. Once I’m out of the shower, I pat my skin dry and apply the Kiehl’s moisturizer. This moisturizer is lightweight but very hydrating and can easily be used under make-up or alone.
Twice a month, I like to use a face mask, my current favorite is the Boscia Charcoal Pore-Minimizing mask that I picked up from Sephora during one of my many make-up hauls. Once my face is clean, I apply the mask and leave it for a minimum of 20 minutes, then remove and massage leftover product to face and let it absorb overnight.
